Acting on a tip off that a large amount of foreign currency is being carried in a Mumbai-bound bus, a special team of Sindhudurg police intercepted it at Banda, situated on the northern borders of Goa and Maharashtra.
The driver has been identified as Nurullah Sayyed Mohammad, Sindhudurg superintendent of police Abhishek Trimukhe informed.
The bag contained 20,000 United States dollars, 14,570 pounds and 4,000 UAE dirhams.
The officer said that the Enforcement Directorate has been informed about the catch.
The bus, owned by a local travel agency has been attached for inquiry.
