The court had on Tuesday cancelled the compensation given to 70 youngsters and asked the state government to recover money from them.
After recalling the order, the court has provided them two weeks' time to respond, following which a fresh order may be given by it.
The compensation was cancelled earlier on the grounds that it went beyond the HC's jurisdiction. It had asked the youth to file a case in a civil court seeking compensation.
A large number of Muslims youths had alleged that they were tortured in custody.
In 2011, on the recommendation of the National Minorities Commission, the state government had offered Rs 20,000 to 50 Muslim youngsters.
The government also offered Rs 3 lakh each to 20 others who were arrested and allegedly tortured in police custody.
