Woods-Vonn love announcement 'carefully crafted PR move'
New York, Mar. 22 : Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn's announcement about their relationship was "a carefully crafted PR move," it has been claimed.
The pair had confirmed on Monday on their Facebook pages that they were dating.
"Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating," the New York Post quoted Woods as writing on his Facebook page.
"We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes," he wrote.
Their announcement was accompanied by a set of cozy images that led the New York Times to declare that the pair "immediately stole the title of Golf's First Couple from top-ranked Rory McIlroy and his tennis-star girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki."
But sources told the New York Post that it was a carefully orchestrated announcement to boost their image.
An insider said it was a match made in marketing heaven, as it makes Woods more sympathetic, and makes Vonn a household name as she reaches a crucial point in her skiing career, the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The source said that the couple knew that the sponsors were watching.
