Modi nomination: Sushma meets Advani
A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate amid opposition by LK Advani, senior leader Sushma Swaraj on Saturday met the party patriarch at his residence here.
Swaraj, along with BJP leader Ananth Kumar met Advani for about 90 minutes to pacify him, said party sources.
However, when asked, Swaraj downplayed Advani's disapproval of Modi and said: "No one is upset."
As the BJP on Friday named Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, Advani expressed his disappointment to party president Rajnath Singh over the issue.
Ending all speculations and signalling the end of Advani era, the BJP on expected lines named Modi as the PM candidate of the party for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"The BJP is having a tradition to announce its Prime Ministerial candidate. The Parliamentary Board of the BJP met today and decided that Narendra Modi will be our PM candidate for the next Lok Sabha elections," declared BJP president Rajnath Singh here at the BJP headquarters amid jubilation by the party workers.
In a letter sent to Singh shortly before the parliamentary board met, Advani wrote, "I had told you I would consider whether to attend the meeting... I think it's best if I don't."
He said he is disappointed with the way the party is conducted.
