Congress strength in Lok Sabha to be up by two Monday
The Congress strength in Lok Sabha will go up to 206 Monday when the two newly elected members from Karnataka will take oath.
The Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) will be reduced to a one-man show of its president and former prime minister H.D.Deve Gowda.
The Congress snatched Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka from the JD-S Saturday when votes cast in the Aug 21 bypolls were counted.
D.K. Suresh trounced Gowda's daughter-in-law Anita Kumaraswamy in Bangalore Rural while Kannada actress Ramya won from Mandya, about 80 kms from here, defeating C. S. Puttaraju.
Anita is married to H. D. Kumaraswamy, who has offered to quit as state JD-S chief and leader of the opposition in the assembly following the party's drubbing in its bastion.
Ramya, the first Kananda actress to enter Lok Sabha, will join the young MPs' list as she is only 30. She was born in November 1982.
Suresh is 47.
Ramya reached New Delhi early Sunday while Suresh will be in the national capital late Sunday.
The JD-S had won only three seats in 2009. Besides Gowda other JDS members were Kumaraswamy (Bangalore Rural) and N. Cheluvarayaswamy (Mandya).
The two quit Lok Sabha on getting elected to the Karnataka assembly in May, which necessitated the byolls.
