Karnataka by-polls: Congress leads

Bangalore, Aug 24 : The Congress is all set to sweep the Karnataka by-polls as counting is currently underway at Mandya and Bangalore Rural constituencies on Saturday.

With 75pc counting done, the latest trend showed the Congress leading by over 80,000 votes in Bangalore Rural and by 40,000 votes in Mandya.

Congress candidate Ramya is leading by over 25,000 votes in Mandya.

Congress MLA DK Suresh is leading by 45 votes in Bangalore Rural constituency over Janata Dal (Secular) [JDS] candidate Anitha Kumaraswamy.

By-polls at Mandya and Bangalore Rural constituencies were held on Wednesday.

The by-polls are crucial for the Congress as this is the first election in Karnataka after its candidate Siddaramaiah took over as the Chief Minister.

Congress is facing one of its strongest rivals in the by-polls - the JDS.
