However, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that the news has an upside as Cummins can return to university as a full-time student this semester, which should allow him to finish his bachelor of business studies quicker.
According to the report, scans confirmed that Cummins returned home from the Australia A team's tour of southern Africa with a recurrence of the injury that ruined his last season.
Cummins, who took seven wickets against South Africa in his only Test, said that he had done everything possible to minimise his injury and ensure a seamless return, although he added that even if the risk can be decreased, it could not be eliminated.
According to Cummins, he had left nothing to chance during his rehabilitation and biomechanic reconstruction, by becoming a more efficient runner and tightening up his bowling action, although he added that he realised that there was nothing he could do to make his bones stronger, which, he guessed, was the cause of his fracture.
