Senior SP leader Azam Khan said Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking that Nagpal is not unfairly treated, was extending her support for political benefits.
"Has her (Gandhi's) stature reduced to this level that she has started writing for a SDM rank official?" he said.
"In view of 2014 Lok Sabha polls, this SDM will be posted somewhere and she (Durga) will get 10 fake votes in favour of Congress," he said.
"She (Gandhi) has affected our federal system by interfering in the matter," he said.
Durga Shakti Nagpal was allegedly suspended for her actions against the powerful sand mafia in Uttar Pradesh who are said to have a nexus with top political leaders in the state.
SP leader Narendra Bhati was even caught on camera boasting that he got Nagpal suspended in 40 minutes for her actions, sparking a controversy.
The state government however has said Nagpal was suspended as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar for ordering the demolition of a wall of compound that was to house a mosque.
A 10-page chargesheet served to Nagpal said that she should have first served a notice before bringing down the wall and asked her to file her report on the matter within 15 days.
