Bandh in Pondy, normal life unaffected
Puducherry, Mar 21 : Normal life was not affected in the union territory following the 12-hour bandh called by the students on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue today.
Almost all shops and other business establishments remained closed in the town and other busy areas while shops opened in rural and interior areas of Puducherry.
Buses, autorickshaws, three-wheeler passanger tempos and taxis were plying and government offices,banks and insurance companies are functioning.
Almost all units in the industrial estates here are also functioning. The major textile mills here were already closed.
The Puducherry administration has already declared a three-day holiday for all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
The bandh was called by the students with the moral support of some political parties to condemn the alleged genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka,to declare Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa as war criminal and India support the US sponsored UN resolution against Sri Lanka with amendments today.
