Nigerian held on cheating charge

Kakinada, Mar 21 : The Kakinada town police today arrested Good luck Kopha (30), a Nigerian on the charge of cheating a local realtor to the extent of Rs two lakh under the pretext of purchasing huge extent of lands for establishing industries attracting investments from multi nationals.

Police said the realtor Srinidhi land mart was contacted by Mohammed Asif online last week introducing himself as the Managing Director of an industrial chain in Ghana and interested in establishing industries in Coastal Andhra Pradesh in association with multinational companies.

He offered to make investments to the tune of Rs four million crore and told them that he was deputing his representative from Nigeria to make preliminary inquiries and prepare the modalities for final agreement.

As agreed and suggested by the realtor, the Nigerian landed here promptly a couple of days back and stayed in Ramappa lodge near the bus station complex.

The realtor took him around various places and showed him the sites extending all hospitalities. Last night, the realtor was requested to provide a cash of Rs two lakh towards initial expenses for his stay till the final agreement is made ready.

The realtor readily gave him a cheque besides some cash towards part payment. However, the realtor developed suspicion on his credentials and after making inquiries with some realtors in Hyderabad, complained to the police.

On interrogation, the Nigerian confessed that he played hoax on the realtor with the help of his friend in Ghana.

A case was registered and further investigation is on,' police added.
