Prisoner hacked to death in transit

Puducherry, Mar 21 : A prisoner who was on bail was hacked to death in broad daylight by an unidentified gang at Lawspet near here today.

According to police Nirmal(31), an accused in the murder of one Amudha of Gorimedu in 2011, who was on bail, was going to Maduvupet from Lawspet on a moped. A gang which followed him in an autorickshaw hit the moped at Krishna Nagar and attacked Nirmal with iron pipes and sickle when he fell down. They also smashed his head with a boulder.

Lawspet police shifted Nirmal to the government hospital but he died on the way. A post-mortem is being conducted at the hospital.
