Telangana protesters block Hyderabad-Bangalore NH

Hyderabad, Mar 21 : Road transport on the Hyderabad-Kurnool National Highway (NH7), connecting seven states to Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh, today came to a standstill with Telangna protesters, demanding a separate state, blocking the national highway as part of 'Sadak Bandh'.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at several places between Bangalore -Hyderabad National Highway Road as the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), intensifying the Telangana movement, began a 11-hour sadak bandh (blockade of national highway) with the support of TRS, BP and CPI to mount pressure on the Centre over separate Telangana statehood.

Police arrested hundreds of JAC leaders including Prof Kodandaram and TRS MLA Etla Rajendra at Toll Plaza near Alampur as they squatted on National Highway to block vehicles coming from Bangalore.

TRS MLA Harish Rao was also arrested at Shamshabad, near here, when he tried to obstruct the vehicular traffic on National Highway road.

Those arrested were shifted to Kurnool Police Station.
