Two-wheeler rally for Lankan cause
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 21 : Students of various colleges in and around the city and a group of general public went to the collectorate on a two-wheeler rally and attempted to lay siege there before presenting a petition to the district collector.
They demanded Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa be declared war criminal and demanded Centre to support the UNHRC resolution against Sri Lanka with the clause for an international agency to probe the war crimes against Eelam Tamils in the Island Nation.
Tension prevailed for a while at Rajiv Gandhi Statue in front of the Railway Junction as a huge number of police forces mobilised there following information volunteers of Nam Tamilar Movement might attempt to break the statue.
However, no one turned up there, police said.
A group of people owing allegiance to the Tiruchirapalli District Youth Wing of the BJP staged a novel demonstration in front of the office of the general manager of the BSNL by blowing the conch, here today for similar reason.
A group of volunteers owing allegiance to the Vidhuthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi gagged the effigy of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and burnt the same near Central Bus Stand and also distributed sweets to the passersby.
