TPDK volunteers attack Aurobindo Ashram in Puducherry

Puducherry, Mar 21 : Volunteers of the Thanthia Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) today attacked the famous Sri Aurobindo Ashram here in connection with the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

The attack was said to be a sequel to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly supporting Sri Lanka in the Eelam Tamils issue.

The vounteers, who took out a procession, barged into the Ashram and damaged the flower pots placed near the Aurobindo Samadhi and also ransacked the office and damaged the glass panes of the office.

The Puducherry dalit sena General Secretary Sundar and a few others were arrested when they attempted to vandalise the Rajiv Gandhi statue.

The police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the volunteers of the Puducherry Students Federation who entered into the immigration office at Anna Nagar.

The students who held a demonstration in front of the office suddenly entered and as the efforts by the police to get them out failed, they resorted to a lathi charge in which seven students were injured.

Police also arrested 40 of them in connection with the incident.

The engineering college students resorted to a road blockade at the Indira Gandhi Square to condemn the lathi charge on the students and the arrest of them and police arrested another 200 of them.

Around 200 VCK volunteers were arrested when they picketed the Kottakuppam post office near here and 50 women's wing volunteers of the VCK were arrested when they put up a road blockade at Kanniyakoil near here.
