Tamil Nadu Highways Authority soon: OP

Chennai, Mar 21 : Tamil Nadu Finance Minister O Panneerselvam today announced that Tamil Nadu Highways Authority will be established on the lines of the National Highways Authority of India.

Making this announcement in his speech which presenting the Budget in the state Assembly for 2013-14, he said major state highways would be entrusted to the proposed state highways authority.

This would give focussed attention to their formation, maintenance and management of quality to global standards.

He alo announced that the state government would also constitute a high-level expert committee to suggest measures to improve the operational efficiency of various State Transport Undertakings (STUs).

The STUs were incurring huge losses and it was need of the hour to address the issue in a comprehensive way, he pointed out.
