Nagaland Forest Minister urge to cantrol destruction of wildlife

Kohima Mar 21 : Nagaland Minister of Forest, Ecology, Wildlife and Environment Y Patton has said the department should oppose and discourage the destruction of flora and fauna and wildlife and urged officials to take measures against all poaching and hunting of wildlife.

According to official sources, Mr Patton was addressing his first meeting with the Department officials at principal chief conservative forest (PCCF) office conference hall yesterday. During the address, the minister highlighted the resolution adopted by the Cabinet to strictly ban serving of 'wild animals and birds delicacy' in any form in public functions and also to discourage accepting wildlife as token of gifts or presents.

Mr Patton urged the officers, implementing agencies to execute schemes and programmes with utmost transparency stating that all programmes and schemes would be strictly monitored.

He said nothing should be done 'undercover.' He called upon the officers to bring out innovative programmes and policies and also to shoulder responsibility, accountability in spite of difficulties and hindrances.

The programme was chaired by Dr C L Geol, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest. Principal Secretary for Forest L Kire was also present at the function.
