Top juniors in fray for Tolly Juniors Cup

Kolkata, May 21 : Top juniors from the eastern region, including the top three players on the Tata Steel IGU East Zone junior/sub-junior order of merit list - Sharif Khan, Yashvardhan Sarda and Zahed Khan, will be seen in action in the Tata Steel Tolly Juniors Cup 2013 that begins at the Tollygunge Club here on Wednesday.

The two-day event will see as many as 70 players tee it up for honours in four categories in the boys section and three categories in the girls section.

The Tata Steel Tolly Juniors Cup 2013 forms the fourth leg of the Tata Steel IGU East Zone Junior/Sub-junior Tour, a brain child of the IGU to unearth and nurture talent with Tata Steel taking over the mantle of supporting the Tour in the role of the title sponsor.

On the competition front, Sharif who has won whatever that has come his way this season will be looking for a fourth consecutive win while Yashvardhan would be looking to close the gap with Sharif on the OOM table.

Sharif has already pocketed the Beldih Juniors, the Golmuri Juniors and the Patna Junior title.

Yashvardhan who plays in category B along with Sharif has shown enough talent to rise to the top.

Sandeep Yadav who has won two out of three tournaments in category C has also impressed with his skills.

"We at Tata Steel have endeavoured to help the growth and development of golf while giving the talented kids a platform to showcase their skills. This is also an attempt to imbibe the golfing culture right from the formative years," said Farzan Heerjee, Head of Corporate Communications, Tata Steel.

Tollygunge Club which has hosted many National events is primed to host the mega event for juniors.
