The Jaipur Police on Saturday said five hearing and speech impaired girls were allegedly raped and beaten up by workers at a residential therapy centre in Jaipur.

The centre, Awaaz Foundation, is jointly run by the Rajasthan social welfare department and a non-governmental organization (NGO).

The police have arrested five people, including the director of the NGO, in connection to the case.

The victims alleged that they were sexually assaulted for the past one year.

Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph told CNN-IBN: "Five girls lodged a complaint saying they were being sexually assaulted and harassed at the Awaaz Foundation for the past one year. We immediately rounded up the accused from various locations and investigations are on."
