NCMT launches degree course in fashion

Kolkata, May 18 : NSHM College of Management and Technology (NCMT) on Friday announced the launch of 3-year B.Sc. Degree Course in Fashion Design and Management at its Kolkata campus.

The course is affiliated to the WBUT (Government of West Bengal), and combines fashion design with fashion management.

The course offers diverse career options catering to the student's creative aspirations and at the same time entering the world of glamour and fame along with a lucrative pay package.

"With the launch of this course NSHM has further expanded its already impressive educational portfolio. The modern concept of fashion design, however, has undergone a sea change today," said Principal, NCMT, Krishnendu Sarkar.

Sarkar added, "It includes technical knowledge, skills and aspects of marketing and merchandising that each serious student must know."

Head of Department, NCMT, Fashion Design and Management, Sais Mriganka Dutta, said, "Now the time for fashion has changed. The industry requirement is a good qualifies person having a good talent in this field. Keeping that requirement in mind, the course has been made."

Dutta added, "The course is a well balanced between the theoretical as well as the practical area."

Fashion designer duo, Dev and Nil, designer Sucheta Merh and Sayon Mitra were present at the event.

Dev said, "We connect directly to the faculties of the industry who are capable of choosing the right kind of candidate the industry needs. We want a hard working person, a person ready to learn, got integrity and have a certain amount of interest in fashion industry. These are the basic criteria we want."

The process of entering NCMT is through a entrance exam conducted by NCMT itself. The first pass out batch will be on 2016.

The college has only 30 seats and the fees structure is 4 lakhs for three years.
