32 killed, over 200 injured on Pakistan election day

Islamabad, May 11 : At least 32 people were killed and 224 others injured in a number of attacks and incidents of violence across Pakistan on the day of general and provincial assembly elections, media reports said.

Citing Urdu TV channels, Xinhua said that a total of 43 incidents including bomb blasts, firing and rocket attacks took place in different parts of the country during the 10-hour polling period that ended at 6 p.m.

The southern province of Sindh was the worst hit, where 17 incidents were reported, leaving at least 16 people dead and 135 others injured.

At least 11 people were killed and 36 others injured in a bomb blast near a polling station in Quaidabad area of Karachi.

Overall 10 incidents were reported from the southwestern province of Balochistan, that left 10 people dead besides leaving 34 others injured.

Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported eight incidents each.

At least six people lost their lives and 23 were injured in Punjab, while 32 people sustained injuries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During the 22-day campaign ahead of the elections, over 110 people including three candidates were killed and more than 350 other injured in bomb attacks and firing.

The majority of the attacks were claimed by the Taliban.
