Wonder if I can reunite with family: Devyani Khobragade

New Delhi, Jan 12 : Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade, who was brought back home from USA where she was charged with a visa fraud concerning her maid, arrested, strip-searched and then kept in a lock up with ordinary criminals in New York, has expressed apprehension over leaving behind her daughters in USA.

Khobragade, who returned to India last week from USA amid a raging controversy, 'wondered' whether she will be able to reunite with her family again.

"I wonder if I will be able to ever reunite with my family, my husband, my little kids. I miss them," Khobragade told The Indian Express.

"What if my children choose to study and work in the US? What if I can never return to the US, which I cannot now... Does it mean we will never be able to live together as a family again?," she said.

India brought back the diplomat from USA after the treatment meted out to her after her arrest and pushed USA to drop the charges of visa fraud against her over her missing Indian housekeeper and controversy over her "low wages" in America.

The US had said she has to undergo the judicial process there.

She was subsequently transferred to a UN posting by India offering her more immunity though the charges against her remained. Devyani was the Deputy Consul General of India in New York when she was arrested.
