Avalanche hit an army post

By Saleem Iqbal Qadri, Kupwara, Jan 9 : Two soldiers were buried alive when a snow avalanche hit an Army post in Machil sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir on Thursday.

Security forces later launched a search operation to recover body of one of the soldiers in critical condition who later succumbed to injuries.

The search was on to find another soldier.

Lt. Col N N Joshi, PRO Defense, Srinagar, confirmed the incident and said that rescue operations to search the missing trooper were on.

Pertinently, two troopers went missing last month when the duo slipped from a mountain track in this sector. One of them was later declared dead, while the other is still missing.
