Jammu and Kashmir: Four cops injured in encounter

By Saleem Iqbal Qadri, Srinagar, Jan 7 : A gunfight started between militants and security forces early Tuesday at Chankhan in North Kashmir's Sopore town.

Sources said that militants opened fire on a police party leaving four Jammu and Kashmir Police men injured.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital but were later shifted to Srinagar Hospital as they were in a critical condition.

"We have launched a search operation to locate the militants in the area," said a senior J&K Police officer.

Additional forces were brought to the area.

Cordon was on when the last dispatch was filed.
