Samajwadi Party workers assault toll booth attendant

Lucknow, Jan 4 : Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) workers on Saturday allegedly assaulted a toll plaza attendant on the Lucknow-Faizabad national highway for asking them to pay fee for using the highway.

The incident was caught on camera where some men, who were armed with guns, were seen entering the toll control room, arguing with the attendant and then hitting him.

Toll plaza manager Kranti Kumar Singh told media: "They came inside and one man started threatening me with a pistol...He threatened me by keeping the pistol at point blank range...Another man who was wearing a white sweater started beating me."

"The vehicle in which they were travelling had SP flags. One man threatened me by saying he is Pappu Yadav," he said.

The police said they have started investigating into the matter.

Piyush Ranjan Srivastav, SP of Raunahi, said, "We have started an investigation. The matter will not be delayed. The culprits will be punished."

SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had recently directed his party workers to remain disciplined.
