Goa: 7 labourers killed in building collapse

Panaji, Jan 4 : At least seven labourers were killed and several others were injured when an under construction building collapsed at Canacona, the southernmost taluka of Goa on Saturday.

Nearly a dozen fire tenders have been pressed to service to rescue more than 100 labourers who are trapped beneath the debris.

Ambulances from south Goa have also been sent to the accident site to shift the victims to hospital and render immediate medical help.

According to senior police officers, the incident happened at about 3 pm when the five floor Ruby Residency came crashing down on them.

State Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Sports and Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, who is also the local MLA and other police leaders, have visiting the distressed victims.

The rescue operation is currently underway.
