Army Commander reviews winter preparedness

By Saleem Iqbal Qadri, Srinagar, Dec 2 : In view of recent heavy snowfall in Kashmir valley and areas along the Line of Control (LoC), Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, Army Commander Northern Command, visited the forward areas of Kashmir valley to review the winter preparedness and strategy to counter infiltration and counter terrorism operations on Thursday .

He arrived in Srinagar city on Thursday and later visited the forward areas of frontier Kupwara division of north Kashmir.

The Army Commander, along with Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps Commander visited Hajipir Brigade where he was briefed on the counter infiltration grid.

The operational preparedness on the formation for the coming months was also discussed.

The Army Commander called on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and briefed him on the prevailing security situation in the valley.

Abdullah appreciated the successful joint operations conducted by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police recently and commended the restraint exercised by the troops during the conduct of the operations ensuring that there were no collateral damages.
