President of Maldives becomes India's first foreign visitor in 2014

New Delhi, Jan.1: Maldivian President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and his wife Fathimath Ibrahim arrived here on Wednesday on a four day visit.

Gayoom, who is accompanied by a high level delegation, will discuss key bilateral and regional issues with the Indian leadership.

Gayoom and his wife were received at the airport by Indian delegates and Junior Foreign Minister, E. Ahamed

New Delhi has already asserted that Gayoom's visit will enhance ties.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the visit would provide an opportunity to further enhance the close and multifaceted relations between India and the Maldives.

Gayoom would meet President Pranab Mukherjee and hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow.
