Rhino poached in Assam

By Hemanta Kumar Nath, Guwahati, Jan 1 : Poachers killed another one horned rhino in Assam's Manas National Park (MNP) on the last day of 2013, officials said on Wednesday.

In the year 2013, Assam has lost 41 rhinos, which were poached in Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Orang National Park and Manas National Park.

The incident took place inside the MNP on Dec 31 where poachers killed a male rhino and managed to flee with the horn.

"Forest guards found a dehorned rhino carcass with bullet injuries inside the park," a forest official said.

The rhino was shifted from Pobitora National Park to Manas in 2011.

According to reports of the Assam state forest department, poachers had killed 41 rhinos in the state in 2013.
