Omar wishes Schumacher speedy recovery

Srinagar, Dec 30 : Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday wished Formula One legend Michael Schumacher a speedy recovery and pledged never to ski dive without proper protection here.

Schumacher is undergoing treatment at a hospital after he suffered a head injury while skiing in the Alps in France on Sunday, reports said.

Abdullah on Monday posted on a micro-blogging site: "Really sad to hear about #Schumacher Hope he makes a quick recovery. Can't believe I've been skiing off piste all these years sans helmet."

Vowing not to ski ever without a helmet, the J&K CM said, "I have always shrugged off advice to get a skiing helmet but no longer, am going to have to arrange one PDQ."

The accident occurred at the Meribel. Schumacher was first hospitalised in Moutiers town but was later shifted to a hospital in Grenoble.

Christophe Gernignon-Lecomte, director of the Meribel resort was quoted as saying to CNN: "He was alone and he wore a helmet. He hit his head on a rock."

"He was conscious but in shock when he arrived in the hospital. We have no information for now on his medical state. To be able to determine the exact causes of the accident, we have to wait for a police report," Gernignon-Lecomte said.

"There is an open investigation going on. We insist on the fact that Michael Schumacher was skiing off-piste and his fall is not linked to an avalanche," the director said.

The seven time German world champion has retired from Formula One for the second time in 2012.
