Large number farmers have been organising a darna since morning, in front of the Oriental Insurance Company at Arandal pet, demanding compensation to their chilli produce which was destroyed when the cold storage, in which they stored their produce caught fire.

Large number of farmers, whose produce was destroyed when the cold storages caught fire, started their protest darna in front of the insurance company in the morning and continuing. CPI district secretary M Nageswara Rao who is leading the agitating farmers, said that the darna would continue until the insurance company disbursed the compensation.

Talking to media, the agitating farmers said they stored hundreds of tones of chilli and other produce in the Nandini and Vengamamba cold storages.

The storages were destroyed in fire mishap due to alleged short circuit last year.

Some of the farmers were paid compensation for the loss of produce and other were yet to be paid. The farmers barged into the insurance company and forced the staff to stop work. The district authorities's efforts to reconcile the agitating farmers failed and the farmers are continuing their darna.
