Minister accuses Naveen Patanik of mining scam
Union minister Srikant Jena, who is from Odisha, has demanded the resignation of state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alleging his "direct" involvement in a multi-crore mining scam in the state.
The Congress leader said by imposing Rs 58,000 crore penalty on 27 mining operators for alleged illegal mining, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD)-led government has only ended up admitting its own involvement in the "mega loot of minerals".
The Congress has alleged that Patnaik allowed iron ore worth Rs 2, 50,000 crore to be illegally mined while the BJD has rubbished the charges and called it Jena's "feeble attempts to stay in the limelight".
At a press conference in Delhi on Monday, Jena, the minister of Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Statistics and Programme Implementation and Chemicals and Fertilizers at the Centre, said that Patnaik should resign and face an inquiry.
