KMC corporator sentenced to 5 yrs rigorous imprisonment

A court here today sentenced a Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) corporator Pradeep Balaso Ulpe, charged in a assault case in 2006, to five years rigorous imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

The court, however, released three others due to want of evidence.

According to public prosecutor, the fight occurred between two groups in January 2006 on the issue of KMC elections.

Complainant Baburao Vilas Ulpe was talking with one Samarsingh and two other people. At that time, the accused came there with three other people and threatened Samarsingh and quarreled with him on the election issue.

Suddenly, the corporator stabbed Samarsingh with his pen knife. The others, who were along with the corporator, also beat him.

Ulpe was severely injured and immediately admitted in a hospital.

Then, Ulpe registered a complaint against the corporator In this case, about 17 witnesses were examined.

Session Judge V R Londhe accepted evidance of Nitin Ulpe and four other witnesses and awarded the sentence to the corporator.
