Congress promises to appoint Lokayukta if voted to power
The Congress in Gujarat today promised to tone up law and order system and appoint a lokayukta in the state if voted to power in the state assembly elections due next month.
Announcing the final point concerning law and order from Congress' 12-point poll agenda at a news conference here, Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia said the party would give priority to the appointment of the lokayukta in the state and hand over the probe in 17 scams amounting to Rs 17 lakh crore allegedly committed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi's government in last few years.
He said the Lokyaukta would be assisted by a team of experts.
Mr Modhwadia said the Congress government would bring in a State Vigilence Commission Act to make it an independent body. He said the whistle blowers, who fight against corruption, will be given proper security. More RTI commissioners will be appointed and all pending appeals of RTI will be cleared within six months, he said.
