Cyclonic storm 'Nilam', which has weakened into a depression, today entered Karnataka and is moving in north westernly direction and will become a low pressure area over the next 12 hours bringing copious rains in several parts of south Interior Karnataka.
The depression,which lay centred near Chitradurga in the state at 0830 hrs today, caused heavy rains paralysing normal life in several parts of the state.
Due to the cyclonic storm 'Bagepalli' in Chikaballapur District received the highest rainfall of 14 cm during the 24 hrs ending 0830 hrs this morning followed by Koartagere (Tumkur) 11, Kolar, Bangalore Urban and Hoskote 10 cm each.
Several parts of Kolar, Chikballapur, Tumkur, Bangalore rural and Urban District, Chitradurga and Chamarajanagara districts received heavy rainfall, according to a bulletin from the meteorological centre here.
In Bangalore city several trees were uprooted by heavy winds with the city experiencing continuous rainfall since last two days.
