Punjab police today booked five persons in connection with the murder of former Barnala MLA Malkeet Singh Keetu.
A case was registered on the complaint of Keetu's adopted son, Kulwant, charging five people including three nephews of Malkeet at Nihal Singh Wala police station here.
Keetu was shot dead at his native village Vilaspur of this district.
As per the report of Kulwant Singh Keetu, the former MLA was shot dead at about 0845 hrs this morning at his residence by the five accused reportedly in an act of revenge.
One of the accused fired two 315 bore MM bullet shots on his chest and when Keetu fell down another shot was fired on his leg, he said.
The grievously injured Keetu was immediately rushed to Moga civil hospital but he died on way to hospital.
Those booked under charges included Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Jaspreet Singh, all three nephews of the deceased, Aangrez Singh alias Kale of Bhadaur district Barnala and Kulwant Singh of the same village.
The five managed to escape after committing the crime.
The hunt is on to nab the criminals.
