8 awarded 10-year imprisonment in JC Bose Hotel gang rape case

A lower court here today convicted eight people in the 15-year old infamous Rajasthan University JC Bose Hostel gang rape case and slapped them with a 10-year jail term.

The District and Session Court (Fast Track-One) concluded the hearing in the case yesterday and delivered the verdict today convicting the main accused Sandip Dahiya and his five accomplices.

Trial against one accused is still on while two accused are still untraced. As per the prosecution, Sandip took away victim girl from a bus stop near the Gopalpura by-pass to the hostel in the university main campus here on September 5, 1997 where he and his five accomplices raped her.

The girl in injured condition was left later with threat for not report their act to any one. However, the victim had lodged an FIR at the Gandhinagar police station here naming the accused.

All 12 accused, including Dahiya and two co-convicts, were acquitted in another case of sexual exploitation for 7 years lodged by the victim.
