Chhattisgarh -- one of the major rice producing states in the country -- will start procuring new kharif paddy at support price directly from farmers from November 1 to mark the state's 12th foundation day, official sources said.
This year the government has targeted to procure a record 68.55 lakh tonnes of paddy in view of widespread rainfall recorded across the state during monsoon.
The procurement, which would start at 1,895 centres through 1,333 state-run Primary Agriculture Co-operative Societies, would continue till February 15.
While the minimum support price for common category of paddy has been fixed at Rs 1,250 per quintal, Grade 'A' paddy will fetch Rs 1,280 per quintal.
Besides, the government will procure maize at the support price of Rs 1,175 per quintal during this season.
