Internationally acclaimed musician Anoushka Shankar Thursday inaugurated 'Wasabee', a restaurant by percussionist Tanmoy Bose here.
"While on concert abroad, I harnessed a liking for all the citrus colours that came across. Since Wasabee was already in my mind, I quickly converted all my colour fascinations into my dream decor," said Bose.
"Wasabee is spread across 200 square feet, churning out the spicy and rich flavours of Indian, Japanese, Thai and Chinese delicacies with 45-seater dining space," he added.
Shankar said, "I eat a lot of Japanese food and Sushi is my favourite. I never cooked myself but I like food a lot. Bengali mishtis (sweets) are also my favourites."
On being asked about Bose's culinary skills, she said,"I don't know about his cooking abilities. I am touring with him since I was 15. He is one of the best person I have known."
Based on the theme of music, the restaurant has a special touch of musical elements to the decor with saxophone, drums and old records adorning the wall to create food with mood.
The percussionist who entered into the hospitality segment, plans to cater to the food lovers especially the high end customers of Kolkata with platters like Chicken a La Hip Hop, Platter-e-Kodo, Shreded Lamb Rock and Roll, Mutton Qawali, Paneer Thumri and Fish Fusion to name a few.
Special mocktails of mango juice, orange juice, vanilla ice cream would be available with pan fried chili tofu, drums of heaven in chili plum sauce, fish cake pepper salt as well as desserts like toffee walnut with vanilla ice cream.
Speaking to IBNS, the percussionist said,"Raag, Rasoi and Pagri (music, cooking and food lovers) go hand in hand. So I have offered a fusion of classical music and contemporary touch to the food and the decor of the place. Japanese is actually my personal favourite."
Also present at the occasion were dancer Mamata Shankar and designer Agnimitra Paul.
