New Delhi, Mar 20 : Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma on Wednesday expressed regret over his 'terrorist' remark against Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"If my remark has hurt anyone's sentiment then I regret it," Verma told reporters on Wednesday after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the issue here, amid mounting pressure from the SP.

Earlier in the day, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi met Mulayam Singh Yadav and said Verma's remarks were 'personal'.

The SP has been demanding Verma's resignation for making comments against Yadav.

Triggering a controversy, Verma recently said Yadav had links with terrorists.

"He has relations with the terrorists," Verma said while speaking at a function in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district recently.

Verma, however, on Monday said he will not resign.

"I stand by what I said. I won't quit. Who is Mulayam to ask for my removal?" Verma said in the Lok Sabha.
