MLAs face arrest for beating cop
Mumbai, Mar 20 : At least two Maharastrian politicians are likely to be arrested for allegedly thrashing a policeman inside the state Assembly premises here on Tuesday, TV reports said. The two politicians were MLA's, who along with eight other legislators had allegedly slapped and punched Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Suryavanshi. "A day before he was thrashed, the cop had stopped a Bahujan Vikas Aghadi leader for speeding on the Bandra-Worli sealink in Mumbai," NDTV reported. While the police said that they have the authority to arrest MLAs in such cases of criminal offence, as per procedure, they will have to inform the chairperson of the Assembly, even if it is after the arrest, since the incident happened inside the state assembly, said reports. The legislators reportedly got agitated following the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi MLA, Kshitij Thakur's accusations against the cop of breach of privilege and allegations that he had also abused him.
While several political members demanded the suspension of the cop, some of them rushed to the visitor's gallery and allegedly thrashed him.
