Bihar to become model state after getting special status:Nitish
Patna, Mar 12 : Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said Bihar would become a model state in the country once granted special status by the Centre.
Addressing a seminar organised here, Mr Kumar said Bihar remained a backward state since the independence as Centre adopted step-motherly treatment towards it. The interest of Bihar was never taken care of by the Centre despite repeated requests from the state government in this connection.
The Bihar government had prepared agriculture roadmap for 2012-17, he said, adding villages having population of 250 would be linked with metalled road, while dedicated feeder would be made available for agriculture work.
Mr Kumar said the state government was trying its best to accelerate the pace of development with its limited resources.
As per the report of Tendulkar Committee, more than 83 per cent of population in Bihar were living below the poverty line, he said, adding the state government would have about Rs 4,000 crore in its coffer saved from giving less share in Centre-sponsored schemes.
It could be used to accelerate the pace of development in the state, which would become a model state once it was granted special status category, he arrested.
