Rajasthan joins club of top crude oil producers in India--Moily

Jaipur, Mar 14: After the discovery of huge crude oil reserves in Barmer-Sanchore basin and other prospective oil fields, Rajasthan has now joined the club of top oil producers in country,

Speaking at the ceremony held here for signing of MoU for putting a refinery in Barmer, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister M Veerappa Moily said earlier the desert state was ranked third in crude oil production.

After the discovery of Cairns' Mangla oil field, considered to be most vital discovery during the past two decades, and other prospective fields like Bhagyam, Saraswati and Aishwarya the state now has been given place in top oil producers of the country at par with Bombay High, Assam and Gujarat, Mr Moily said.

Oil fields are spread over 1.5 lakh sq Km area in 15 districts in the state, he said, adding that this would transform fully the scenario and prospects of the desert lands.
