Punjab Assembly pays tribute to Damini, among others
Chandigarh, Mar 12 : The Punjab assembly today paid homage to Delhi gangrape victim Damini among others in the obituary references today.
Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal read out the obituary references which described Damini, a victim of inhuman rape.
The House also paid tributes to former minister Sat Pal Saini, ex-MLC Pritpal Kaur Wasu, ex-MLAs Chhajju Ram Gupta, Gurdev Singh Grewal, eminent politicians Prem Singh and Karam Singh, noted Pujabi writer Harbhajan Singh Rattan, critic Maninder Singh Kang, novelist Karnail Singh Nijhar, eminent lawyer Hira Lal Sibal and former SGPC member Mohinder Singh.
The Assembly also paid homage to freedom fighters Harbans Lal, Darshan Singh, Ram Murti Vadera, Tara Singh, Mukhtiar Singh, Ruldu Ram, Ved Parkash Mehra and Kundan Suingh Sahota.
After the obituary references, the members observed two-minute silence in the memory of the departed people. The Speaker then adjourned the House for the day.
