Jamshedpur, Mar 12 : A jawan of the anti-naxal paramilitary force India Reserve Battalion (IRB) -2, today mysteriously suffered bullet injury inside its headquarter premises in Musabani town of East Singhbhum district.

Police, however, claimed it to be an alleged attempt of suicide, official sources said.

Baleshwar Das(26), a resident of Deoghar who was under treatment at the government-run MGM hospital, however, claimed that he sustained the bullet injury in his leg when someone, 'probably some peeved colleagues', attacked and tried to kill him.

But the Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rajeev Ranjan rubbished it saying he was trying to cover up a failed attempt of suicide. He, however, could not satisfactorily answer as to why the jawan would take a shot in his leg with an intention to kill himself.

Mr Ranjan said Das shot himself with his rifle while on duty in the IRB-2 headquarters in Musabani, around 45 km form here. He was said to be under severe stress for the past 2-3 months due to some family problems owing to which he had even expressed desire to quit the job.

The SP claimed that the injured jawan was now trying to save his skin by claiming that he had sustained the bullet injury when some of his colleagues attacked him but that was not true as the 12 rounds of empty cartridges found from the place were fired from his official weapon.

On the other hand, the jawan claimed that he fired the rounds in self defence.
