Announce drought in state: Khadse
Mumbai, Mar 12 : Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Eknath Khadse today demanded that the government announce drought in the state immediately.
Initiating the debate on drought situation, he wondered when the state was reeling under the drought this year and the situation was worset than that of drought experienced in 1972, why the government was maintaining the words "drought-prone or scarcity-hit situation" in the state.
"Drought should be announced immediately in the state," he added.
Mr Khadse also raised the issue of assistance from the Central government and stressed for getting more aid.
He wondered why there was disparity while giving the compensation to crops like grapes, banana and sugarcane and demanded that all crops should be given compensation with the same yardstick.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Vinod Tawde alleged that the drought-hit Maharashtra government feeds more water to breweries than people.
He said he had filed RTI which revealed that the government has increased water supply to breweries when the state is facing acute water shortage. On the contrary, water supply to medicine and automobile companies is reduced, he added.
