Tibetan women's group starts protest campaign
New Delhi, March 12 : A Tibetan women's rights group Tuesday started a three-day protest campaign at Jantar Mantar here against the "oppressive" Chinese rule in Tibet.
The campaign - 'Tibetans Stand Together in Joy and Sorrow' - by Tibetan Women's Association will include public meeting, women's peace rally, prayer meeting, silent protest and all-women lobby campaign.
The protest will continue till Thursday.
"We would like to state that Tibetans are unsatisfied with the status of occupation, and with the harsh policies implemented in Tibet. This oppressive rule has, against its intention, incited greater resistance, and acted as an unwavering catalyst to the increasing number of self-immolation as well as peaceful demonstrations," the group said in a release.
The campaign will also pitch for a demand of an UN intervention in Tibet, recognition self-immolation as a valid form of protest and more international pressure on the Chinese government to uphold humans rights within Tibet.
