Cracks widen within Assam Congress?
Guwahati, March 7 : Cracks within the Assam Congress became more visible as a section of Congress legislators arranged a closed-door meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday night.
Local news channels in Assam reported that at least 24 Congress legislators participated in the closed-door meeting, which was held at the MLA hostel in Dispur on Wednesday night.
"A three hours long meeting was held at MLA hostel where at least 24 Congress legislators have demanded to change in the leadership of Assam Congress legislators," a local news channel reported.
"The section of Congress legislators prepared a memorandum addressed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi against the recent activities done by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi," the news channel reported.
Meanwhile, a senior Congress MLA Chandan Sarker denied last night's activities and said that there are no anti-party activities in Assam Congress.
On other hand, Gogoi said that he is not interested in the chief minister's post.
"If 10 Congress legislators have written a letter to the Congress president complaining against me, then I will quit," the Assam CM said.
"I am always ready to quit from the office. The conspiracy is not new for me. Some leaders have been conspiring against me for a long time. They had fielded a candidate in the organizational election, where I was elected as the president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. So I do not care about those things," Gogoi said.
