Panaji, Mar 6 : The Goa government has hiked the monthly salary of the Advocate General (AG) from the current Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, a decision which a local activist has threatened to place before the yet to be commissioned Goa Lokayukta. Advcate Aires Rodrigues has condemned the 'flawed decision' and demanded that 'Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar justify how AG will now be paid over five times more than the President of India'. "The issue in public interest would be raised through a documented complaint before the Goa Lokayukta. I would also urge the Lokayukta to investigate into the huge disproportionate assets acquired by AG Atmaram Nadkarni as well as the other patent and glaring irregularities in the office of the AG," Rodrigues has said. Meanwhile, a doctor-cum-social activist Shekhar Salkar has moved the Bombay High Court at Goa seeking direction to the State to appoint Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta. The government has been asked to submit a reply within two weeks. The Goa Lokayukta Act was lately notified by the government.
