Russian kids visiting porn, gambling sites: Ombudsman
Moscow, Feb 28 : Over half of the Russian minors, who are using the Internet, visit websites with harmful content including pornography, the country's children rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov has revealed.
In a report to an international conference on information safety for children, Astakhov said: "About 40 percent of those aged under 14 visit porn sites."
Russian children make 18 percent of the country's active Internet users, or around 10 million people, the report said.
Astakhov said 19 percent of minors visit sites with violent material, 16 percent gamble online, 14 percent visit sites related to illegal drugs and 11 percent visit extremist websites.
Russian minors often use mobile phones to open harmful websites because they consider them to offer more privacy and protection, the ombudsman added.
