MP: Train runs over kids; station torched
Vidisha, Feb 26 : A railway employee was killed as an angry mob ransacked Gulabganj Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha district and set the station premises on fire after two children were run over by a goods train on Tuesday, reports said.
According to reports, Deputy Station Superintendent Saket Bansal and another person was injured in the incident. The deceased railway employee was identified as Bhagwan Das.
The accident occurred after wrong announcement was made about the goods train.
People, including the deceased children, tried to cross the down line by crawling under a goods train after hearing an announcement at the station for a train leaving on the up line.
The children were run over by the goods train when a station master wrongly issued a green signal to the train that was stationed there.
One of the children was identified as Mohammad Ali.
"The children were hit by an express train on the adjoining track as soon as they came out," Rajeev Chaudhary, Divisional Railway Manager told The Times of India.
After the incident, an angry mob went to the station and ransacked it besides setting the station premises on fire.
Train services on the route were affected following violence at the Gulabganj railway station, officials said.
The violence occurred on a day when Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal presented the Railway Budget 2013-14 in the Parliament.
